White Rock Film Screening

April 24 | 6pm - 9pm | Jump Ship Brewing

Join National Parks and Wildlife Service for a powerful new documentary is shining a spotlight on a hidden environmental crisis in Australian waters—the longspined sea urchin’s destruction of the Great Southern Reef. White Rock, featuring acclaimed filmmaker and environmental advocate Damon Gameau, weaves together science, policy, and sustainable seafood to reveal a path forward for Australia’s struggling reefs.

The film premiered at the 2025 Ocean Film Festival and went on to tour nationally with Q&A screenings.

Longspined sea urchins (Centrostephanus rodgersii) have transformed once-thriving kelp forests into barren seascapes, impacting 2,000 km of coastline from southern New South Wales to Tasmania. Without urgent action, scientists warn these degraded ecosystems will be slow to recover—placing fisheries, biodiversity, and marine industries at risk.

This special community screening will feature a special post screening discussion with local National Park and Wildlife Service's Marine Coordinator.
